What is RSS?

Keeping up to date with the information you want can be difficult. You can subscribe to an RSS feed (a way of automatically delivering changing web content directly to you) so that you don't have to keep visiting a website in order to keep up to date with all of its news and information.  It's easy to set one up:

Get a news reader

The first thing you need is a news reader - a piece of software that will manage your mac news feeds (plus feeds from other sites) and let you know when any new stories are available.

There are a range of different news readers available, some of which are accessed using a browser (these tend to be free), and some of which are downloadable applications (there can be a cost for these).  Here are some examples:

  • Windows - Newz Crawler, FeedDemon, or Awasu
  • Mac OSX - Newsfire or NetNewsWire
  • Web - Bloglines, My Yahoo! or NewsGator
  • Browser - Mozilla Firefox
  • Other: Google, Outlook, or Thunderbird

Subscribe to the news feed

When you've selected the news reader you want to use, the next step is to subscribe to the mac feed.

That's it!

When there is news that you shouldn't miss, it will appear in your news feed.  Remember to check your news feed regularly!
